I had a colleague who was always absent-minded. She was the one who lived closest to our workplace, still she arrived 5-10 minutes late every day. She carried a bag as if she had brought surviving gear with her. I don’t take as much stuff, when I visit my mom for a weekend and she keeps carrying this luggage each day. I couldn’t observe completely how she was dealing with her job, as we did not have the same duties. I only know from others, that she couldn’t perform 100% there either. There were always several things in her mind at once, she could never pay attention to just one thing.
I tried to imagine how her flat looks like.
I know how I feel after a major cleanup and scrapping, organized, relaxed. But if I work too much and I do not have time to pack and tidy up my apartment for a longer while, then I don’t even recognize myself. I am inattentive, nervous, unmindful, can’t find anything and that makes me even feel worse. Then one day, I no longer remember the reason, I had the opportunity to go up to her apartment. Well, my assumption that her state of mind projects her inside and that there must be chaos and clutter in the apartment, has been confirmed. In fact, it was even beyond that! There was no dirt in the apartment, this must be said, still I had the impression that furniture and equipment of two apartments were squeezed together. The curtains pulled in, in the twilight a plethora of objects everywhere, there wasn’t enough space in the kitchen cabinet to put down a glass. When I asked her how she finds anything in such chaos, she replied: “it is hard”. She’s been looking for everything for at least half an hour, and often she gave it up…
I suggested to her to change a few things, what to do, where to put it, and how to eliminate chaos in the apartment. To repack only one cabinet at a time. What is bad or broken, should be thrown out and move on little by little but gradually, every day one just a little, step by step. We also eat the cake per slice, no apartment can be organized at one time, because that would cause even more chaos. One day one closet, the next tomorrow, and by the end of the week, she managed to reorganize the entire wardrobe. By the time she got this far, she figured out that she repaints the bathroom. After she eliminated the chaos in her apartment, she became noticeable organized, day by day. The woman who used to break in to the door late, grumpy, arrived on time, rested and with a smile. She became more present, calmer and was in a better mood.
I learned in feng shui that the apartment mirrors our inside, but this was the instance, that showed it clearly and obviously. So if you’re tired, forgetful, and reluctant, it is time to start a big cleanup and garbage disposal. Afterwards, you’ll feel like you’ve been changed, you’ll feel better. Moreover, a thorough cleaning and littering can burn many calories.
